Who we are Tanzania Porters organization is a non profit, non government organization founded in 2013 and officially registered under the societies act (cap. 337, re. 202) with the registration number sa.18752 to operate in Tanzania mainland within Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions. The organization is currently working with porters who climb mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro and has a total of 16,000 members. The organization was founded after realizing that most companies were not adhering to the fair treatment of porters and their working conditions. Vision The organizations vision is to promote the welfare and rights of porters climbing mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro and to ensure fair payment and work conditions. Mission T o improve working condition of all mountain porters and to protect the interest of the members of the organization. Objectives The objectives of the Tanzania Porters organization are:
To provide porters with knowledge on labor rights and safe guards their social economic well being whilst working on mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro.
To provide clients with all the necessary information in supporting porters when booking a tour, trek or safari.
To provide linkage and networking between porters, government authorities and companies working in the tourism industry in Tanzania for the purpose of establishing fair working conditions.
To ensure the provision of proper equipment for trekking fair payment, food, accommodation and medical care.
To provide porters with environmental conservation knowledge, first aid training and tourism training so as to ensure quality services and sustainability of the ecosystem.
To promote the tourism industry by collaborating with stakeholders and ensuring access and proper information to both clients and porters on procedures and guidelines of fair payment and quality service to all parties concerned.
